How do I know whether it is (technically) possible to have a charging station installed at home

To find out whether you are eligible to have a charging station installed at home by your employer, complete the following questionnaire.

If you live in the Brussels Capital Region in an apartment block with more than 3 residential units or 3 parking spaces or 3 garages, it is up to the VME/syndic to provide a collective solution in terms of charging infrastructure. No more individual charging station may be installed. Read more. If you find yourself in this situation, there is nothing else to do but cancel your request for a charging station. For the technical part, you will be invited for an online audit. This audit will determine whether it is possible to install a charging station and what additional modifications would be required. This audit will also reveal the maximum charging capacity with your existing electrical installation and the technical requirements (e.g. energy management with a digital meter) to optimise the charging capacity.

2. Do you have the owner's approval in writing?
   • Yes
     Go to question 3
     Important: Provide your employer with the owner's written approval
   • No
     Without written approval, you cannot have a charging station installed
3. What type of property do you have?
   • House with private driveway and/or garage
     You are eligible to have a charging station installed at your home
   • Terraced house (without private driveway and/or garage)
     Go to question 4
   • Apartment with private garage and/or allocated parking space
     • Do you have written approval from the co-owners' association/property manager?
       • Yes
         Important: Provide your employer with the owner's written approval
         You are eligible to have a charging station installed at your home
       • No
         Without written approval, you cannot have a charging station installed
   • Apartment without private garage and/or allocated parking space
     You are not eligible to have a charging station installed
4. Does your local municipality allow charging cables in public space (e.g. on the pavement)?
   • Yes
     You are eligible to have a charging station installed at your home
      
   • No
     Apply for official approval from your local municipality
     Go to question 5
      
5. Have you received official approval from your local municipality?
   • Yes
     Important: Provide your employer with the official approval
     You are eligible to have a charging station installed at your home
   • No
     You are not eligible to have a charging station installed
      
6. Is the inspection certificate of your home electrical installation still valid?
   (The certificate is valid for 25 years)
   • Yes
     You are eligible to have a charging station installed at your home
      
   • No
     You need to request a reinspection of your home electrical installation.
     Without a valid inspection certificate, the installation of a charging station is not possible
      
7. Does the earthing of your home electrical installation still meet the required resistance levels?
   • Yes
      
   • No
     The inspection of the newly installed charging station will be unsuccessful. In this case, you are responsible for carrying out the necessary corrective works.
     Once these adjustments have been completed, you will need to schedule a reinspection and cover the associated costs yourself.
